SAN ANTONIO (Texas News Radio) — Texas Gov. Greg Abbott isn’t concerned about a blue wave rolling through the Lone Star State.

Speaking at the Resurgent Gathering 2018 in Austin Friday morning, Abbott told the conservative gatherers said his own defeat of then state senator Wendy Davis by a broad margin in 2014 is proof enough.

The Dallas Morning News reports event host and blogger Erick Erickson also asked the governor how the state balances the liberal policies of cities like Austin with the conservative values of state lawmakers.

The governor simply stated, “It’s easy.  We don’t tolerate it.”

He pointed to how Austin’s plastic bag ban and Denton’s fracking ban were both overturned.

Abbott said he would be in favor of renaming the Texas Railroad Commission, which actually regulates the oil and gas industry.

He also joked about building a wall along the Texas and New Mexico border — as opposed to the Mexico border — to keep Californians from moving to Texas.

SAN ANTONIO (Texas News Radio) — Only one Texas Democrat has been tasked with helping develop a deal to secure the border.

That would be Laredo Rep. Henry Cuellar.

The Democrat stated on CNN Wednesday he would have an open mind during negotiations on most topics, except for one: border wall funding.

Cuellar repeated a common stance held by many Washington politicians that the wall is a medieval era solution to the current issues along the border.

The commission — which includes 17 members of Congress, including Fort Worth Rep. Kay Granger, a Republican — has until February 15th to come to a deal. If it fails, it risks the federal government slipping into another shutdown.

The president tweeted Wednesday if there is no discussion on a wall or physical barrier, the committee will be wasting its time.

Castro used the interview to also blast the president, saying he failed the country for the partial government shutdown.

The Democrat is likely to face a deep field of candidates seeking to earn their party’s nomination.

When asked about a potential match-up with former Congressman Beto O’Rourke, Castro only told the paper he has a lot of respect for him.
