New bus drivers running out of time to secure CDL for school year

The Texas Department of Public Safety is reminding Texans planning to drive school buses this year to make sure your licensing is up to date early.

SAN ANTONIO (Texas News Radio) — The Texas Department of Public Safety is reminding Texans planning to drive school buses this year to make sure your licensing is up to date early.

The department said Thursday anyone seeking a commercial driver license should begin that process as early as possible.

Those drivers can get their commercial learner’s permit and take the written test across the state, but they must hold a CLP for two weeks before they can take a skills test.

With the new school year approaching, the department wants new CDL applicants to get the process started as soon as possible to ensure they are licensed in time for the new school year.
