SAN ANTONIO (Texas News Radio) — A Texarkana man needed a lift to an out-of-state rap concert, so he went to the airport.
But, he wasn’t willing to wait for the next flight out.
The Texarkana Gazette reports Texarkana, Ark., police got reports of a man climbing over a fence at Texarkana Regional Airport at around 2:30 a.m. on July 4th.
When police got there, the man — 18-year-old Zemarcuis Scott — had gotten into the cockpit and closed the door to an American Eagle jet.
Officers used a flashlight to look inside the cockpit and saw a man inside. When Scott turned his head, some of the officers on the scene recognized him from previous run-ins.
Two cops got the plane door and eventually took the teen into custody.
Police asked Scott about his intentions, since he wasn’t a trained pilot. Court documents say he told them he didn’t think there was much more to flying a jet than pushing buttons and pulling levers.
Scott was charged Monday with commercial burglary and attempted theft of property. He could face three to 10 years in prison if convicted.
