Mayor Ron Nirenberg was in Boston this week, hoping to score another Final 4 for the Alamo City.
Nirenberg talked to KTSA shortly after meeting with NCAA officials.
“We made our pitch for the next round of NCAA Men’s Final Four tournaments. From 2023 to 2026.”
The Mayor says he believes San Antonio’s performance during the Final Four this past March is a strong testament to the board that the city can execute an big time sporting event.
“Hopefully we will get some positive news next week on our chance to host another.”
The Mayor says several organizations work together to provide a winning presentation.
“From the event spaces themselves like the Alamodome and the convention center. To the hotels in the city and the amenities. Hopefully the NCAA board will be pleased with what they saw from us in March.”
Nirenberg says he’s heard a lot of positive comments form those who participated in the Final Four in March.
So why the big pitch? It’s a big economic shot in the arm for the city.
“We came out ahead of schedule in terms of closing out the event in March. Our projected economic impact is about 185 million dollars.”
The NCAA board will make it’s decision next week.
