SAN ANTONIO (KTSA News) – AAA Texas predicts 3.4 million Texans will travel by planes, trains and automobiles for the 4th of July holiday period, and most of them will be driving.
“AAA Texas predicts 2.9 million Texans will drive to their destinations for Independence Day celebrations,” said Daniel Armbruster, adding that the 4th of July travel period is from Tuesday through Sunday.
Gas prices are higher than they were a year ago, but that’s not keeping people from traveling this year.
“We have an economy that is very strong right now. Unemployment is very low. Consumer confidence is up and many people feel like they have extra disposable income that they can spend toward luxury items and things like travel,” Armbruster told KTSA News.
He’s warning drivers to brace for “terrible Tuesday.”
“Tuesday evening is expected to be the worst time to travel because you’re going to have holiday travelers mixed in with commuters leaving work that evening,” Armbruster said.
